What I Do

I help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and family owned businesses (FOBs) create a multi-generational enterprise using a legacy framework, a platform based on the characteristics of successful multi-generational business and entrepreneurial families. I use this to help shape the architecture necessary for an enduring business-owing family.

HOW I CAN HELP

As an Attorney-at-Law and Family Business Advisor, I help families construct a multi-generational enterprise for wealth and harmony. My work with FOBs includes developing succession plans and governance practices that enhance communication and facilitate next-generation capacity. I guide families to overcome personal, organizational and governance challenges to create a successful and fulfilling generational transfer of wealth, values and legacies.

I am a Certified Mediator and Arbitrator, currently holding the office of Vice Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (TT Chapter). This help facilitate cross-generational communications and to have those difficult conversations relating to the family business in a professional and sensitive manner.  I am a professional member of the Family Firm Institute and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, two highly regarded specialised associations for practitioners advising families across generations.

I also act as a collaborator with other professionals, including attorneys, accountants and financial advisors, that advise SMEs and FOBs to bring clarity to continuity planning that inspires family engagement and communication.

How It Began

It began from a family business. My great-grandfather began his business in the 1920’s, with my grandparents further commercialising the business in the 1960’s. Currently in the hands of the third generation, like many FOBs, transitioning to the next generation, or not, is a crucial point they will inevitably face.

As a result, I am acutely aware of the challenges faced by SMEs and FOBs, including succession planning, fairness and equity, family employment, remuneration and retirement. With family business advising, I am able to offer guidance to the owners, their families and the business, as a holistic entity in a unified direction.

Who Are My Clients

My clients are SMEs and FOBs, from the first generation to those in the second generation and beyond, that are actively seeking succession, governance and conflict resolution processes. I work together with the family to build their shared vision, agreements, skills, practices and infrastructure needed to create successful transformations.
